UN Global Road Safety Week
The United Nations 3rd Global Road Safety Week was observed worldwide from 4th to 10th May 2015, on the theme children and road safety. In order to celebrate this week, Our Forum in association with Marwari Yuva Manch, Cuttack and Odisha Road Safety Society organized various activities like painting competition and signature campaign at Odisha State Maritime Museum, Cuttack, Odisha (India). The programe was attended by children, women, police and transport officials, press and media representatives and general public etc. The most popular TV anchor and actor Mr. Kuna Tripathy, General Secretary of Odisha Film Actor Association was the key attraction of the programme. As a part of #Save Kids Lives Campaign, school children presented a signature book to Mr. Sanjeev Arora, Dy. Commissioner of Police, Cuttack city and requested to save their lives on road. After competition, the winners were awarded with prizes and certificates.
In order to mark the 2nd United Nations Global Road Safety Week, Forum for Prevention of Road Accidents (FPRA) in association with Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety and Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar – Cuttack organized several events from 6th to 12th May 2013 in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar cities (India). One of the key objectives was to draw the attention of the society to the need for pedestrian safety. All stakeholders, including government, nongovernmental organization and corporate agency were involved in this event. The key events included Inaugural Function of Global Road Safety Week, Press and Media Conference, Awareness Campaign on Pedestrian Safety and the Long Short Walk.
FPRA organized a Press Meet at Hotel Grand Residency, Cuttack on 6th May 2013. From 7th to 10th May 2013, the volunteers of FPRA also actively participated in the awareness campaign on pedestrian safety. In Cuttack with the support from City Traffic Police, we distributed leaflets, brochures and badges to road users. Through the Long Short Walk, campaigners with printed umbrellas, t-shirts, caps, placards and banners moved on the road and raised awareness about road safety measures. The placards highlighted the cause - Why I am walking for. This unique demonstration attracted attention of thousands of people. The Forum is thankful for the generous support given by Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety for organizing such events on this occasion.
On the occasion of 1st United Nations Road Safety Week, Our Forum organized a state level workshop on “Roles & Responsibilities of Different Organizations in Reducing the Road Accident Deaths in Orissa” on 25th April 2007 at Hotel Suryakiran, Orissa (India). The workshop dealt with most important segments like Government, public sector, reputed NGO, media, police and enforcement, health agencies, transport operators etc. who have a discrete role to play in reducing road accidents and resulting fatality rate in Odisha. Sate Transport Commissioner, Dr. S. B. Agnihotri attended the programme as chief guest. The programme was sponsored by Odisha Road Safety Society.
